First, the center of the posterior wall of the epipharynx is tapped five or six times with the slightly-curved nasal cotton applicator to evaluate bleeding and edema of the mucosa. Next, the mucosa is abraded broadly from the midline of the epipharynx to the left and right, from the top to the bottom of the posterior wall, with the applicator facing up and down. The basic principle is to "abrasively" the mucosa with enough strength to lightly scrape it, rather than apply. If there is inflammation, bleeding from the edematous mucosa will be easy, and mucosal peeling will be observed. After that, the slightly-curved nasal cotton applicator is turned downward to abrade the left and right Rosenmuller's fossa. Finally, the slightly curved cotton applicator is turned downward to abrade the dorsal surface of the soft palate toward the front.
