真冬の赤羽の丘は前景に樹氷を帯びたポプラとカラ松林の影，遠景に十勝岳連峰を望んで美瑛の冬を代表する被写体であったが，今はカラ松林が伐採され，前景の木影は映らない。美瑛の撮影スポットは残念ながら減ってきている。
